Carter likely to return to first five-eighth

Tom Taylor has been playing brilliantly at ten for the seven-time champions, but the young prodigy will likely earn a break in the coming weeks.
Further to this is the fact that coach Todd Blackadder is following a similar formula employed with Israel Dagg (who has only recently been positioned at fullback after playing on the wing), putting him in a position where he doesn’t need to ‘test’ his recovered injury too much.
The shift for Carter has raised some eyebrows for those who believe specialists should always play in position, with that same crowd believing it wasn’t ideal for the All Blacks that their premier playmaker was playing for the Crusaders in a different spot leading into their 2012 test season.
Blackadder told the Sunday Star-Times it was about what was best for the player.
"We don't make these decisions in consultation with the All Blacks," Blackadder said.
"It was a case of managing him back to full fitness. It wasn't ideal but we did what was best for the player. I'm sure the All Blacks' selectors completely understand. They don't want us to throw him in at 10 and take the goal-kicking duties for him to tear his groin again."
With Carter looking untroubled and comfortable with general kicking, he may be given all of the responsibilities with the boot in the very near future.
"When DC comes right and gets the kicking duties back we'll probably look to give Tom a break. It's his first year and he's done an amazing job,” Blackadder said.
"Tom is a young guy. He can't keep continuing what he's doing. We will give him a break, put Dan back at 10 and slot Ryan Crotty in at 12. He (DC) didn't do a lot of kicking this week so he's probably a week or 10 days away from going back to first-five."
