Northover goes straight on to the bench for New Zealand's tournament grudge match against Wales at Cape town's Newlands Stadium, after Wellington lock Christian Lloyd's tournament was cut short with a serious knee injury (anterior cruciate ligament) in their last pool match victory over Fiji on Wednesday.

Penney is continuing to share the work around the squad with the team he has named for the semifinal. He said the team was looking forward to the challenge.

"We're really pleased to be here, and we're looking forward to another chance against Wales. We know that they will be a formidable opposition again but we are very focussed on the task at hand," he said.

The New Zealand Under 20 team is:

1. Ofa Tuungafasi
