Meads Cup champions Wanganui held off a strong challenge from North Otago to win 39-22, while Buller was the other team to ensure their home crowd was happy, accounting for Horowhenua Kapiti 34-16 at Westport.
The two closest matches of the weekend saw Wairarapa Bush defeat King Country 25-15 in Taupo, while Mid Canterbury closed out a tight affair against 29-24 in Greymouth.
