"Surgery next month after I strengthen my knee & fix my MCL tear so post ACL surgery hopefully my knee will be stronger & heal better," Jane wrote.
The Hurricanes back injured himself during a preseason training session in late January, and has been waiting for an official report, although he did tell media in Wellington earlier this week that he did hold hope to try and come back this season.
Joking he would let Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett take a rest so he could coach the team, Jane has been in high spirits despite the injury, coming after another strong international season that confirmed the wingman's reputation as one of the best in the business.
Usually such injuries take roughly six months to heal, and cases of early returns are not the norm.
However history does show that often an efficient and organised recovery can lead to the player returning with the knee in question stronger than before.
