Storm coach Kallun Adam told aucklandrugby.co.nz he was pleased to scrape out the win.
“It’s good to get one of the biggest games out of the way first and get that win,” said Adams.
“We went to sleep for a while there in the second half but there were also some very pleasing aspects to the match.”
The closest match of the round was played out in Papakura where Waikato were able to sneak a 16-15 win against Steelers, preventing a magical Counties double over the weekend.
Finally the Otago Spirit defeated the Wellington Pride 21-17 in perfect conditions at North Ground, Dunedin.
Otago was led well by captain and two-try scorer Haile Hurring, even though Wellington never went away, threatening a late comeback with the last try, but the hosts were able to withstand the closing onslaught to register a win.
