4000 premium seats at Forsyth Barr Stadium will be available for the Regal Rugby Fun Day from the stadium Gate A box office and from midday tickets to those seats can be requested online at www.ticketdirect.co.nz

There is a maximum of five tickets per person for the public event. While tickets are free, usual courier delivery charges apply and tickets booked online are not able to be collected at the box office.

New Zealand Rugby with support from Dunedin City Council is hosting the Regal Rugby Fun Day to give their Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge a unique taste of rugby.

“We’re really excited that the royal couple are taking the time to experience what rugby means to our country and we hope locals turn out in force to welcome the Duke and Duchess to what will be a fun event at Forsyth Barr Stadium,” said New Zealand Rugby Chief Executive Steve Tew.

The Regal Rugby Fun Day will see local rippa rugby teams participate in a mini-tournament. All Blacks taking part will include Richie McCaw, Aaron Smith and Ben Smith, as well as former All Black and Highlander Brad Thorn.

The Fun Day begins at 10am with food and entertainment, as well as rugby, on offer during the three-hour event that coincides with the regular Stadium Sunday Market, which will be themed for the event. The stadium car park will be open, with entry by donation. People are advised to be seated by 11am.

Mayor of Dunedin Dave Cull said: “For most people this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the Duke and Duchess. We are very fortunate they are coming to our city and I’m sure their visit will be a memorable one.”

Dunedin Venues Chief Executive Terry Davies said thousands of people are expected to turn out to give the royal couple a warm southern welcome.

“It’s terrific that Dunedin, with the help of New Zealand Rugby, can host the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge under the roof here at Forsyth Barr Stadium.”
