New Zealand, who were unbeaten on Day One with wins over Samoa (26-7), Portugal (38-0) and South Africa (19-5), continued their good form in the penultimate leg of this season's campaign.

With rain trickling down, the All Blacks Sevens renowned wet weather pressure game came to the fore against their trans-Tasman rivals.

Tries to Tim Mikkelson and Scott Curry in the first half was followed by what was effectively the match winner when Ben Lam crossed a couple of minutes into the second stanza.

A consolation try was scored for the men in gold via Cameron Clark.

Fiji’s 14-12 win over England sets up a classical Cup semi-final, while the Red Rose will play Australia in the plate semis.

The other semi-final will feature either host’s Scotland, South Africa, Kenya or Canada.

The All Blacks semi will be at 02:58am on May 5th (NZT).
