Captain and hooker Rory Best said his side would need a performance that rated with the best they had ever produced in an Ireland shirt.

In what will be his 99th Test Best said: "It's about us being consistent with our performance levels, that's the most important element.

"Big one-off performances and then a drop-off isn't acceptable any more with this group of players.

Best wasn't buying into the debate over who enjoyed the underdog status in the game saying that was something for the media to argue.

"They are the number one team in the world for a reason. There won't be any talk about favourites or underdogs in the changing room before the game," he said.

"It's about knowing we will really have to perform in order to beat a very, very good All Blacks team.

"We've put the pressure on our group of players through the coaches to make sure that the preparation we did two weeks ago won't be enough," he said.

Best said Ireland had been together for three weeks so should be better than they were in Chicago.

"We need to be better," he said.

Defensively work had gone into analysing the four tries the All Blacks had scored in the 29-40 loss with defence coach Andy Farrell hard on the defensive elements in the side's win.

"For us we looked back at some of the scores, some of the breaks and there's a lot of improvement we can make in our systems," he said.
