After dispatching Wales (19-7) and Japan (40-14), the All Blacks Sevens pushed reigning Olympic Champions Fiji hard before coming up short 14-17.

Fiji had earlier drawn with Wales but claimed top spot in Pool C courtesy of the tight win over New Zealand.

All Blacks Sevens assistant coach Tomasi Cama said the challenge against South Africa would be huge but the side is looking forward to it.

“It’s going to be a big match. We know the tournament isn’t won on day one or day two, so if we can fix those little things I think we can do well.”

While the All Blacks Sevens-South Africa clash is mouth-watering, the other three quarterfinal clashes are just as tantalising with unbeaten Australia taking on Argentina, USA taking on England and Fiji facing Canada.

Other talking points on day two included Russia’s shock win over Scotland and Australia’s heroic 12-10 win over England.

The All Blacks Sevens face South Africa at 4.06pm NZT on Sunday. Watch the final day action live on Sky Sport channel 56 from 1.30pm.
