The two unions also met in the women’s final but Manawatu were far too strong in running 26-5 winners over Wellington.

In the Southern Region tournament played in Timaru, it was an all-Crusaders affair in the men’s competition as Tasman and Canterbury qualified first and second respectively.

Tasman weren’t as successful in the women’s division though, with Canterbury, Otago and Southland claiming the three spots on offer at the 2018 Bayleys National Sevens.

Counties Manukau were the standout side in the Northern tournament played in sweltering temperatures in Cambridge. The Steelers went unbeaten to claim top spot in the men’s division with Bay of Plenty second and North Harbour third.

Waikato topped the standings in the women’s division on their home-patch of Cambridge with Auckland and Counties-Manukau also impressive.
