The team will play matches against Samoa Schools and Australia Schools A, culminating in an international against Australia Schools in Sydney on 9 October.

The squad of 28 includes Tim Nanai-Williams, the only player from the 2006 side to earn a second selection.

Gisborne Boys’ High School, winner of the 2007 New Zealand Schools Novotel First XV championship, has three representatives while beaten finalist Mt Albert Grammar provides two players in the squad.

Coach Hansen said the players’ mental and physical strength will be tested this year, with three games in eight days.

“This is an exciting challenge for the players. We have selected the players who performed well for their respective teams during the national competition and they now have a chance to showcase their talent on the international stage,” Hansen said.

The captain will be confirmed in due course.

The New Zealand Schools squad will assemble at Auckland Grammar on Monday 24 September before departing for Australia on Sunday 30 September.
