Dillon Hunt

STANDOUT loose forward Dillon Hunt made the massive jump from the relative obscurity of second-grade university club rugby to the professional game with the Highlanders last year after a string of injuries to the team’s openside stocks.

The 22 year old, who headed south from Auckland to study surveying at Otago University, made an immediate impact with his huge work rate and played most games. Hunt did well to even get noticed in Dunedin: his first year down south was with the second-tier University Gold Colts team, not the more prestigious University Blue Colts.

His stand out performances during the 2017 Mitre 10 Cup earnt him a spot as one of five additional players in the All Blacks touring squad, and he came off the bench against the France XV in Lyon. He was also a member of the Barbarians team which faced the All Blacks at Twickenham. Hunt had a solid season during this year’s Investec Super Rugby campaign, playing in 14 of the Highlanders 17 games and scoring two tries.
