Derren Witcombe

Tasmanian-born Derren Whitcombe joined the Blues in 2002 and in 2007 he brought up his 100th first-class match during the Rebel Sport Super 14. Whitcombe will play for the Junior All Blacks in 2007 when the side attempts to retain its Pacific Nations Cup title. He made a welcome return to the Blues after missing the 2006 season with a serious neck injury whilst playing for Auckland against Canterbury. He played five Tests for the All Blacks in 2005 and is regarded as a top scrummaging hooker. His accurate lineout throwing will also enhance the Blues set-piece accuracy. He has previously represented Northland in cricket as a wicket keeper / batsman.
