Craig Newby

Craig Newby translated some excellent form in the 2006 Rebel Sport Super 14 into an All Blacks recall when he played his third Test against Ireland. A back-row all-rounder, Newby moved to No 8 in 2006 to great effect: he has the size and athleticism to play on the back of the scrum or the blindside, where he has played most of his provincial rugby, and the speed and skill to excel as an openside flanker, the role in which he made his two All Blacks appearances in 2004. Newby made his All Blacks debut when he came off the bench to spell Marty Holah in the second Test against England at Eden Park, and earned a second cap, again off the bench, in the All Blacks last match of the Philips Tri Nations Series against South Africa in Johannesburg.
