Wayne Smith - Asst Coach

Smith is a former All Blacks first five-eighths who appeared in 17 Tests between 1980 and 1985. After a stint playing club rugby in Italy towards the end of his career in the late 1980s, he returned to New Zealand to wind up his career with Canterbury. He made the transition from player to coach - first with Canterbury then the Crusaders, who under his guidance, won the Rebel Sport Super 12 competition in 1998 and 1999. In each of these seasons he was also an assistant coach with the All Blacks under head coach John Hart. In 2000-2001 he was made All Blacks head coach. He moved to English club Northampton in 2002 before returning to New Zealand to join Graham Henry's coaching staff in 2004.
