Grace Brooker’s skills and versatility have landed her a professional women’s contract in her first year out of school.
The 19-year-old from Oxford in North Canterbury played five years in the strong Christchurch Girls’ High School First XV, who are UC Cup defending champions. She was deputy head girl in 2017. While she often played at openside flanker for her school, she was posted at fullback for her High School Old Boys club, where she proved dominant and a prolific tryscorer.
After a stint with the Canterbury women’s sevens team, Brooker was promoted to the senior team for the 2017 Farah Palmer Cup. Playing mainly at fullback or on the wing, she proved a standout, scoring five tries en route to the championship title, including doubles against Manawatu and Waikato in the semifinal.
Brooker also played for the New Zealand Under 18 Sevens team in 2017.
