The only Black Ferns-contracted player still at school, Dhys Faleafaga is making a name for herself in both sevens and 15s in Wellington.
Now in Year 13 at St Mary’s College, where she starred for the top schoolgirls’ First XV in the country last season, Faleafaga is another skilled, fast and versatile young performer.
Just before her 17th birthday, she was called into the Wellington Pride squad and played in the last three Farah Palmer Cup games of 2017, impressing with two tries and her allround play.
Faleafaga starred at the Condor and World Schools Sevens tournaments in late 2016, helping St Mary’s to the top. In September 2017, Faleafaga, operating in the midfield, scored a try and set one up for her First XV as they defeated Hamilton GHS 29-12 in the final of the national Top 4.
Rugby runs in her family - her sister Lyric Faleafaga is in the wider Black Ferns Sevens squad, while parents Tim Faleafaga and Vanessa Chong-Nee are stalwarts of the Norths club, where the girls play.
