Doug Howlett

With more than 50 Tests for the All Blacks Doug Howlett has stood the test of time at the elite level of the sport. At the age of just 28, Doug Howlett is the veteran of the All Blacks ‘back three’. The classy wing’s four tries for the Blues in the 2006 Rebel Sport Super 14 moved him into third place on the all-time Super 14 try-scoring list, while his seven Test tries in 2005 took him to 41 Test tries in total, good for third spot on the All Blacks all-time list; three behind Jeff Wilson and five short of Christian Cullen. He first played for Auckland while he was at secondary school (he was head boy of Auckland Grammar) and was the youngest player ever to debut in Super 12, at the tender age of 18 years 230 days. He then scored three tries in his run-on debut a week later. Howlett was nominated as a finalist for the International Rugby Players' Association's player of the year award in 2003.
