Sione Lauaki

Sione Lauaki made his All Blacks Test debut off the bench in the team’s 91–0 demolition of Fiji at Albany in 2005 and went on to play six more Tests in that year. A remarkable athlete for a player of his size, ‘Wax’ as he is known to teammates is a dangerous runner off the back of the scrum or ruck or in the open field, and puts his strength and physical presence to good use on defence also. Lauaki returns to the Chiefs for his fourth season. In the middle of the 2006 Chiefs season Lauaki tore his pectoral muscle in a match against the Bulls. After recovering from surgery in the middle of the year, he returned to top form during Waikato's successful 2006 Air New Zealand Cup campaign. He joins wing Sitiveni Sivivatu in playing both for and against New Zealand in a 12-month span after making his international debut for the Pacific Islanders team against in 2004. He is another player from Auckland’s Kelston Boys’ High School where he made the First XV in 1998. He was selected for the Auckland Secondary Schools B team in the same year and followed on to make the A team in 1999 and 2000. He represented the New Zealand Colts in 2001 and 2002 and made his Air New Zealand NPC debut for Auckland in 2002. Career Notes • Scored Test match tries for the Pacific Islanders against Australia, New Zealand and South Africa within a 15-day period in 2004, a feat without precedent. Just 13 other players have scored tries against all three teams in their lifetime. • Transfered from Auckland to Waikato before the 2005 season. • Played for Auckland Secondary Schools 1998, 1999 and 2000. • Twice scored tries against England Under 21. Other tries for New Zealnd Under 21 were against Japan and Wales Under 21. • His brother Hame Lauaki plays for the New Zealand Warriors in the NRL. New Zealand Representative Teams New Zealand Under 21 in 2001, 2002 All Blacks in 2005, 2007-2008
