Heiden Bedwell-Curtis

Heiden Bedwell-Curtis is a gritty flanker, renowned for his direct running and physicality at the ruck. He grew up in the eastern Taranaki farming community of Whangamomona and came through New Plymouth Boys' High School where he made the first XV for three years between 2007 and 2009.

He made his ITM Cup debut for Taranaki in 2012, playing the season's first two Ranfurly Shield matches against King Country and Wanganui, before breaking his cheekbone playing for the development side. He captained the Taranaki sevens side to its first national title in more than 30 years.

Bedwell-Curtis moved to Manawatu in 2013, helping the team to the ITM Cup Championship in 2014. He was called up into the Hurricanes wider training group on the back of some strong performances for his province.

Selection for the Maori All Blacks is not the first time he has worn the black jersey, having been a member of the New Zealand side which won the IRB Under 20 World Championship in Italy in 2011.
