About the team

New Zealand Schools represents the first rung on the high-performance ladder of New Zealand Rugby, introducing young players to the culture and environment of New Zealand’s national teams. Many players who shine at the professional level of the game and attain higher honours, have begun their careers with the New Zealand School’s team.

For many young players, New Zealand Schools is the first black jersey they’ll earn — a proud tradition stretching back to the 1970s. The team brings together top school-aged players to compete internationally and sets the stage for what’s possible in rugby and life. 
 
From this squad, many go on to become All Blacks, Black Ferns, or professional athletes. But for every player, it’s an unforgettable moment of recognition and opportunity.
