He has already featured alongside his uncle despite over a decade of difference in age, and it seems that the powerful Tameifuna will make his Investec Super Rugby debut in the coming weeks.
The Chiefs 23-19 loss to the Highlanders extracted a heavy toll on the Waikato based franchise, with prop Ben Afeaki breaking his right forearm and being ruled out for 12 weeks, while Toby Smith will be missing for at least a month with a calf injury.
Elder family member Taumalolo, who played for Tonga at the Rugby World Cup last year, as well as Shane Cleaver are the only fit props in the Chiefs squad alongside the likely debutant.
Tameifuna was a member of the Under-20 World Cup winning team last season, and while he didn’t make the match day squad against the Chiefs, it seems likely that forward’s coach Tom Coventry will call in the giant young prop.
Magpies teammates Taumalolo, Hika Elliot and Brodie Retallick all featured for the Chiefs during their first round loss.
