Player Profiles - Caleb Ralph

A prolific try-scorer, Caleb Ralph began his career while still at school, making the New Zealand Sevens team as a teenager. Ralph has not only played a century of Super Rugby, but also set the record of 100 consecutive games for the Crusaders in his 2006 campaign. A strange thing happened when the Crusaders won the inaugural Super 14 in the fog by beating the Hurricanes in the final: The match represented the first occasion in the 104 matches played since he joined the franchise in 1999 that former All Black Caleb Ralph hadn't featured on the field. He played provincial rugby for Bay of Plenty, then Auckland before heading to Canterbury in 1998. His Test debut came that same year. He is known for his outstanding work rate on the field and his rock-solid defence. Ralph has played for three of New Zealand’s five Rebel Sport Super 14 franchises – the Chiefs (1997), Blues (1998-1999) and Crusaders (2000-). He scored eight tries in 13 games for the Crusaders in 2003, and 10 in 2002 and is the only New Zealand player to have scored tries against all five New Zealand Super 14 franchises. A wonderful servant for both the game and his franchise, Ralph is the Crusaders' leading try-scorer of all-time. He starts the 2007 campaign just three tries short of becoming the first Crusader to post 50 tries for the team in Super 14.
