Stephen Donald is an energetic and reliable first five-eight, who moved to Waikato after two seasons with Counties Manukau.

He is well-established in Waikato, turning out for their Air New Zealand Cup side and for the Chiefs.

Donald is extremely popular in Hamilton because of the accuracy of his passes and his kicks.

He is one of the most prolific points scorers in New Zealand, scoring the most points in the 2007 Rebel Sports Super 14 and the second most points in 2008, behind Dan Carter.

He is a product of New Zealand’s age grade system, coming through the Schools and Under 21 teams, and became a veteran member of the Junior All Blacks, with three seasons in the side.

Career Comments:

• Started two matches for the Junior All Blacks in Australia in 2005, against the Queensland Reds and in the second international against Australia A at Sydney, and scored a try in each game.

• Played three matches for the Junior All Blacks in 2006 during the IRB Pacific 5 Nations Tournament.

• His 133 points in the 2006 Rebel Sport Super 14 set a new Chiefs individual single-season record. Among New Zealand players, only Dan Carter scored more.

• Scored equal-most tries and second-most points for Waikato in 2005.

• Converted 15 of the 16 tries scored by New Zealand Under 21 against Russia Under 21 in 2004. Scored one try himself for a personal tally of 35 points.
