Player Profiles - Robbie Deans - Coach


The most successful coach in the history of Super 14 rugby, Robbie Deans is back for another year after bagging his fourth title from six final appearances, with the Crusaders in 2006. Holder of the record for the most points by any Canterbury player during his own career, Deans made an immediate impact as a coach when he broke Canterbury's 14-year NPC title drought in 1997. He was Crusaders manager in 1997-99, and then won the Super 14 at his first attempt in 2000, before presiding over Super 14's only clean sweep when his Crusaders won 13 straight in 2002. He was made assistant to All Black coach John Mitchell in 2001 and claimed the Tri Nations and Bledisloe Cups in his time with the national team.
