In 2008 Boric made his test debut against England, and played ten internationals that season in a year where the North Harbour second row forward looked to stamp his claim on an All Blacks jersey.

Yet it was injury that caused his 2012 Investec Super Rugby season with the Blues to halt, and recent neck surgery won't guarantee he makes a return to the playing field, although he hopes to be fit for next year.

He told Newstalk ZB that he hoped to start his recovery once he was given the all-clear after the first checks post surgery.

"It takes about six to eight weeks for the bone to heal up properly," he said.

"I think there may be a scan after that to I guess determine whether it has set in place properly so that'll be the d-day I suppose."

If the crucial injury is cleared, then Boric will return for the Blues in 2013.
