Tana Umaga's Steelers might be top of the table, but there is plenty of congestion at the top, with Counties boasting one win and one loss along with Otago, Tasman and Northland.

In the ITM Cup Premiership, Wellington head the table, one of just two teams along with Ranfurly Shield holder's Taranaki who are undefeated so far this season.

On Thursday night Southland host Otago in the lower South Island grudge match, while the following evening the amber and blacks will prepare for their second consecutive Shield challenge.

Tasman followed up their giant killing efforts against Canterbury with a proud loss against Taranaki, losing 40-49 in a thrilling affair.

This weekend Hawke's Bay get their shot at winning New Zealand's famous Log o'Wood, and will head to Yarrow Stadium this Friday.

Saturday serves up a couple of blockbusters, with Auckland hosting Waikato, while defending champions Canterbury welcome ladder leader's Wellington.
