The Eastern Province based side will make their Super Rugby debut next year, and Watson has impressed for Currie Cup First Division feeder side the Eastern Province Kings, scoring eight tries in four matches recently.

This form led to an easy choice according to Solomons, who feels that Watson could offer plenty to the Springboks and current test coach Heyneke Meyer.

The Kings, as well as unveiling Watson as new skipper, revealed three high profile signings that will come on board in November 2012.

Western Province flyhalf Demetri Catrakilis, Free State Cheetahs centre Andries Strauss and Sharks lock Steven Sykes have all signed two-year contracts with the Kings.

Catrakilis impressed at Varsity Cup level but is still to make his Super Rugby debut, with the Stormers using Peter Grant, Gary van Aswegen and Burton Francis ahead of him.

Kings president Cheeky Watson revealed that the Kings had a R40 million warchest to stock up their roster, while 12 players from the current Eastern Province side have signed contract extensions until next year.
