Auckland went to the top of the table in the Premiership thanks to a entertaining 43-30 win over Wellington at Eden Park.

Taranaki defeated Northland 32-31 at Toll Stadium to maintain second position on the overall table, ahead of Wellington.

The defending champions made their intentions clear with a 52-27 win over Waikato, meaning that Canterbury move into fourth spot overall.

In the Championship, Counties-Manukau stayed on top with a 31-28 win over Manawatu in Palmerston North.

Otago overtook Tasman in second position thanks to their most impressive result of the season, winning 39-13 at Forsyth Barr Stadium.
