Carter has missed the All Blacks last two tests of The Investec Rugby Championship with a calf injury, meaning that Chiefs playmaker Aaron Cruden has started recently for the World Champions.

Such was the initial concern regarding Carter’s injury that Hurricanes first five-eighth Beauden Barrett was called into the touring squad.

At this stage All Blacks coach Steve Hansen said he would be named to start.

"He is that way at this stage,” Hansen said.

“We'll have to wait and see how we go on the training track but DC's come through the week reasonably good and he sounds confident, as long as he doesn't get any setbacks we should be fine."

The All Blacks touched down and had a quiet day yesterday with some light gym work, before taking part in their first local training session which attracted nearly 200 curious locals.
