Both teams will be appearing in European club rugby's showpiece match for the first time guaranteeing a new name being etched on the coveted silverware as the 10th club to be crowned champions of Europe.

Toulon booked their place with a Jonny Wilkinson inspired 24-12 victory over Saracens at Twickenham Stadium to join Clermont, 16-10 victors over Munster in Montpellier a day earlier, in the prestigious final.

The clubs know each other extremely well as fierce Top 14 rivals - Clermont are currently leading the French championship with Toulon snapping at their heels in second place just a point adrift - and the Heineken Cup final may not be their only head-to-head for a title this season.

Meanwhile the honours have gone to four-times Heineken Cup champions Toulouse in all three of the previous strictly French affairs.

In 2003 they beat Perpignan 22-17 at the Old Lansdowne Road, they followed that up with an extra time 18-12 victory over Stade Francais Paris in Edinburgh and finally edged Biarritz Olympique 21-19 in Paris three years ago.
