Read's toe injury is fully recovered, and despite just one game back, being back within the high intensity All Blacks environment, and looking likely to be the World Champion's captain, the Crusaders number eight looks ready to take the big step up.
Incumbent captain Richie McCaw, who is back in New Zealand training, will not be available at all during the Steinlager Series.
For Read, he said to ONE News the most important thing was ensuring that the whole team knew precisely what was expected of them.
"It's all about making sure everyone's on the same page in this camp," Read said.
"And ensuring that we welcome in a lot of the new faces (there are ten uncapped players in the first training squad) and get a feel of how we want to play."
