Chiefs lose Kerr-Barlow for six weeks, but Leonard is ready
A swollen jaw has turned out to be a broken jaw for Chiefs halfback Tawera Kerr-Barlow, with a hit to the mouth in the Investec Super Rugby champion's 19-7 win over the Highlanders leading to what was confirmed as an injury that will take six weeks to heal.
Leonard has been coming back to match fitness via the Chiefs development team, and will be in line for selection against the Blues.
Chiefs coach Dave Rennie confirmed the worst after Kerr-Barlow was treated on the weekend.
"(His) face was swollen after the game," Rennie said.
"He had a scan the day before and there was nothing visible other than something around his wisdom tooth (which Kerr-Barlow had mentioned earlier)."
Rennie said to the Waikato Times it was good to have Leonard back.
"It's good timing with Harry coming back in but it's tough for Tawera and he's pretty gutted," Rennie said.
