All Blacks Head Coach Steve Hansen today confirmed the 24-year-old is out injured for four to six weeks after breaking his right ring finger - meaning he is unlikely to be declared fit for next month’s Steinlager Series against France.

“Sam will undergo a follow-up x-ray after which we should have a clearer picture of the injury and what that means for his return to rugby.

“While this is disappointing for Sam, and for the All Blacks, one man’s misfortune is another man’s opportunity, so we look forward to seeing that opportunity being realised.”

The players attending the camp are as follows:

Frank Halai, Steven Luatua, Keven Mealamu, Charles Piutau, Rene Ranger, Francis Saili and Piri Weepu.

Ben Afeaki, Sam Cane, Aaron Cruden, Tawera Kerr-Barlow, Liam Messam and Brodie Retallick.

Beauden Barrett, Dane Coles, Ben Franks, TJ Perenara, Julian Savea, Brad Shields, Conrad Smith, Jeremy Thrush, and Victor Vito.

Dominic Bird, Daniel Carter, Wyatt Crockett, Israel Dagg, Owen Franks, Kieran Read, Luke Romano, Tom Taylor and Samuel Whitelock.

Hosea Gear, Andrew Hore, Ma'a Nonu, Aaron Smith, Ben Smith and Tony Woodcock.

The wider training group is in Mt Maunganui until Tuesday 28 May.
