Pasifika Aotearoa Cup completes first round

Bernard Tepaa, a member of the Northern Region Maori and North Harbour Board opened the Official Welcoming with a karakia and blessed the tournament with a mihi whakatau.

Acknowledgments were made to the various teams involved for their participation in this Pasifika Aotearoa Cup. Nick Bakulick Auckland Samoa, Kimmi Hassan Northern Region Maori, Doris Taufateau Auckland Tonga and Margarette Nena Counties Manukau Cook Island, were all presented with plaques by NZR as acknowledgments for their contribution to Pasifika Aotearoa Cup.

This, combined with the beautiful weather, set the scene for the day.

The U19's girls section kicked off at 11am saw Auckland Tonga win convincingly against Auckland Samoa 46-10. The youngster, Ana Taumalolo, the elusive No8 running out for Auckland Tonga had an impressive game.

The Open Women’s section was at 1pm, Auckland Tonga beat Counties Manukau Cook Island 47 –7, with Black Fern Mele Hufanga scoring a hat trick of tries.

Northern Region Maori beat Auckland Samoa 21 – 10.

The quality of the game this early in the year was outstanding. Black Fern Trish Hina, returned to the game in form stamping her mark for the Northern Region Maoris, whilst Katie Mailata, 16 year old prop, an up and coming player and member of the Counties Manukau WPC side, played her first game and scoring for the Auckland Samoa side.
