In one of two changes to the side that beat the Waratahs in Wellington, Mark Hammett has shifted All Black Beauden Barrett to fullback to make way for Pisi in the crucial No 10 jersey.
While the pair could potentially form a valuable kicking combination, assistant coach Alama Ieremia explained both are likely to spend time in the play-making role against the Blues.
"Tusi offers another style of attack with his versatility as a 10, 12 and 15 for us this weekend," he said.
"Beauden is experienced at fullback and having him in this position gives us another option.
"He has moved between first five and fullback this season when the bench has been introduced, so it is an opportunity to give those combinations more game time."
With an expansive game plan in mind, the duo effectively give the Hurricanes the ability to launch their attack from either side of the ruck.
The Chiefs have become renowned exponents of the tactic, with fullback Gareth Anscombe moving in to assist first five-eighth Aaron Cruden.
It has come at a cost, however, fullback Andre Taylor has been forced onto the bench, meaning the Hurricanes will be without one of the best counter-attacking weapons.
Meanwhile, Ben Franks has been bracketed at loosehead prop after missing last week's game due to a lower back strain.
On the bench, Dane Coles has been bracketed with Ash Dixon for the reserve hooker jersey.
Pisi is known for his memorable performances for Samoa at the 2011 World Cup.
His lethal combination with wing Alesana Tuilangi could easily be replicated with Julian Savea with disastrous consequences for the opposition.
Blues coach Sir John Kirwan has already labelled the Hurricanes attack 'the best in the competition' and has prepared his defence accordingly.
Kirwan will name his side on Thursday at 1pm. .
