The Black Ferns are ramping up their preparations with a two-Test series against Australia, kicking off in Christchurch on Saturday night (NZT). They’ll be looking to defend the O’Reilly Cup, with the second Test a week later in Adelaide.
As well as the O’Reilly Cup series, the Black Ferns could play a couple more warm-up games before the World Cup gets underway. Details will be confirmed over the coming weeks.
They are in Pool A alongside Australia, Wales and Scotland. Their opening game of the Rugby World Cup is against Australia on Saturday 8 October at 7.15pm NZT at Eden Park.
Tournament directors are hoping to break a world record for the largest ever women’s rugby crowd. The current world record is a sell-out crowd of 20,000 at Stade Jean-Bouin in Paris, where England beat Canada in the 2014 World Cup final.
The goal is to double that and get around 45,000 to 48,000 fans inside Eden Park for the opening day.
The World Cup in Aotearo is promising to be an action-packed festival of rugby, with tickets from just $5 for kids and $20 for adults.
