The 20-year-old, who launched his Test career earlier this year with Wales to take part in a Six Nations title and to tour South Africa with the British & Irish Lions, received a personal message and a gift from Carter, the greatest points scorer in Test rugby.
The message read: "To Louis, what a magical season! Work conquers all. Enjoy the boots!"
The boots referred to were a pair of Carter's limited edition Adidas Predator boots.
They are part of a post-career project Carter has with the All Blacks' sponsor, a custom pair of gold boots which feature Carter's signature, his cap number, his Test appearances (112) and the points he scored (1598).
Aaron Smith and Beauden Barrett have worn the boots in games, but they are not available to the public.
Carter said earlier in a social media post, "This is one of my favourite projects that I have done with Adidas and definitely the most personal as it was a celebration of my career.
"The gold is a tribute to the boots I wore during my 100th Test."
Rees-Zammit posted a picture of his new boots on social media saying: "Thanks Dan Carter, much appreciated."
