However, there were anxious moments when captain Owen Farrell was hit in an illegal tackle which resulted in USA flanker John Quill being sent off, 10 minutes from the end of the game. Farrell was able to play on.

Coach Eddie Jones said after Thursday's 45–7 win over the USA, "We wanted to be on 10 points at the end of two games so we are perfect.

"We wanted to go out hard against them [the USA] and we scored early, but we probably got a bit seduced by the space and tried to move the ball too much.

"The conditions were such, it was like a wet weather game, but we found our rhythm and tempo really well in the second half. We made some handling mistakes but we will improve. They are quite unique conditions," he said.

The temperature was 27 degrees Celsius and there was 70 percent humidity which had left the ball like a cake of soap.

"They had 14 players in the line and it was hard to get a numerical advantage, but as soon as we started to play through them we were much better," he said.

England have a long break until they play Argentina on Saturday, October 5.

The players would have time off before getting into preparations.

"Then it's a one off game against Argentina that is going to be important. They are playing for their lives and we're playing to beat them so it is going to be a good game," Jones said.

"What is going to be important is that we match their passion and we play with control and are smart about the game; they are a difficult team to play and we understand that."

Man of the match, first five-eighths George Ford said: "The conditions were very challenging; it made the ball very greasy. When the opportunity arises you need to be able to find the space and shift the ball and exploit the opportunities and that's what we looked to do."

However, England also made good use of the driving maul in their seven tries to one win.

"The set piece is traditionally one of England's strengths, it's an incredible weapon when you can get it going and it's about finding balance.

"It's a good win again. The United States were very physical and passionate. We will recover from this and then start our preparations for the game against Argentina," he said.
