Hurricanes: Predicted line-up for round one

Vaea Fifita, Du’Plessis Kirifi and Gareth Evans headline the Hurricanes loose forward trio in 2020, with Ardie Savea set to miss the start of the season, as he recovers from knee surgery. It’s a strong loose forward trio and throw Murphy Taramai and Reed Prinsep in the mix as well and the Hurricanes have themselves a handy line up of flankers. Dane Coles will co-captain the side with TJ Perenara, with the veteran All Blacks hooker set to have some healthy competition with Ricky Riccitelli and Asafo Aumua.

In the backs, it’s expected that Jordie Barrett will spend some time in the pivot role, replacing his older brother Beauden who’s made the well-documented move up north. Whilst Jordie has been named as a midfield back, we wouldn’t be surprised to see him get some more game time at 10. Aside from the first five-eighth position, the Hurricanes have maintained a consistent and exciting backline and we’re looking forward to watching the likes of Ngani Laumape and Chase Tiatia showcase their attacking flare again.
