It will be their 100th ever Test match, finally getting there after playing their first official Test back in 1991. That Test was against Canada in Glamorgan in the Rugby World Cup and the Black Ferns came away with a 24-8 win. They have since gone on to become the most successful ever rugby team, winning five World Cup’s.
We breakdown some of the numbers from the past 99 Tests.
86: The number of Tests the Black Ferns have won
14: The number of Black Ferns captains since that first Test in 1991. Fiao’o Faamausili is the most-capped captain, having led the side on 35 occasions, with Farah Palmer close behind with 30 Tests as skipper.
342: Kendra Cocksedge has scored the most points for the Black Ferns, with 342, helped by her trusty boot. Vanessa Cootes scored 215 points, from 43 tries.
45: The most points scored in a single Test. Yes, that’s right. Cootes scored 9 tries against France in 1996. Portia Woodman came close with 8 tries in a Test, when they took on Hong Kong during the 2017 Rugby World Cup.
3905: The Black Ferns have scored 3905 points in their 99 Tests. They have only leaked 888 points against them.
57: Faamausili is also the most-capped Black Fern on 57, with Cocksedge right on her heels. If she plays all four Tests on the Northern Tour, she will be equal with Faamausili on 57.
353: As of October 19, 2021, there are 353 days until the Rugby World Cup kicks off on home soil. The Black Ferns will take on old rivals Australia on the opening day of the tournament at Eden Park on October 8, 2022.
