Fullback Selica Winiata has been named captain of Manawatu, while former Black Fern Sosoli Talawadua will be vice-captain, after joining the Cyclones from Waikato. Fellow former Black Fern Janna Vaughan returns to the Cyclones alongside Kristina Sue, with New Zealand Sevens development player Crystal Mayes also included to add significant depth to the Manawatu backline.

QUICK TAP: FORMER BLACK FERN JOINS OTAGO SPIRIT COACHING TEAM
Feaunati has selected five young players who will be in a cadetship programme to work alongside the main squad. Those players are Laura Claridge, Jasmine O-Connell, Izzy Rewiri, Yuki Sue and Chloe Henderson.

Keep an eye out for Kalyn Takitimu-Cook who plays fullback or wing and has pace to burn. She’s a strong goal kicker and announced her arrival to the Farah Palmer Cup competition last year with a hattrick against Auckland on debut. 18-year old Tiana Davison is also one to watch. The athletic loose forward has a high work rate and has transferred to Manawatu to study at Massey University. Carys Dallinger is a versatile player who can cover most positions in the backline. All three players were part of the New Zealand Under 18 Sevens team who won gold at the Youth Olympics in Argentina last year.
The Manawatu Cyclones will field sisters in 2019, with lock Kahurangi Sturmey and winger Rangi-Marie Sturmey both in line for their debuts. Kristina Sue who is a teacher and coach of the Manukura girls First-XV, is set to play alongside one of her students in Kaipo Olsen-Baker.
