For the past two months, Aotearoa New Zealand has been engulfed in Rugby World Cup fever. The #LikeaBlackFern movement has inspired a nation in backing the Black Ferns in their quest for Rugby World Cup success. The Black Ferns have not only inspired a new generation, but they have also captured the hearts and minds of New Zealanders.
Black Ferns Co-Captains Ruahei Demant and Kennedy Simon said they have been proud of the support the Black Ferns and the tournament has received.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the support shown towards the team throughout the tournament. It has been a very special time for us over the past few weeks, and we are excited to play for Aotearoa New Zealand on Saturday, then connect with our amazing fans on Sunday.”
New Zealand Rugby CEO Mark Robinson said the support for the Black Ferns has been inspirational and the team continues to harness that energy as they head into final.
“We are so proud of the Black Ferns and what they have achieved already at the Rugby World Cup. The way they have played on the field has been exceptional, and they have captured the hearts of New Zealanders. We are right behind them heading into the final. Sunday’s event is an opportunity to acknowledge the players and the outstanding support they have received from whānau and fans.”
