TJ Perenara and Julian Savea close in on try-scoring record

TJ Savea

Former NSW Waratahs fullback Israel Folau sits at the top of the list on 60 tries with Blues legend Doug Howlett on 59 and prolific Crusaders try-scorer Caleb Ralph on 58.

Perenara’s intercept try against the Chiefs in round seven took him to 57 Super Rugby tries and fourth equal on the overall ladder with Brumbies great Joe Roff. It also moved him ahead of Christian Cullen to become the Hurricanes all-time leading try-scorer.

It’s a five-way tie for the sixth position with Julian Savea joining retired legends Christian Cullen, Bryan Habana, Ma’a Nonu (still active in Major League Rugby) and Stirling Mortlock on 56 tries.

With DHL Super Rugby Pacific just halfway through the regular season and an incredible 229 tries already scored, there’s every chance that either Perenara or Savea could break the mark of 60 Super Rugby career tries set by Israel Folau back in 2019.

Both players will be hoping to add to their tally when the Hurricanes host the Crusaders at Sky Stadium in Wellington on Saturday afternoon. Get your tickets HERE.
