BIOGRAPHY

THE COUNTIES MANUKAU Heat skipper is a tenacious and inspirational leader who won a deserved Black Ferns’ call-up at the age of 27 in 2019.

Arihiana Marino-Tauhinu had long proven she was one of the smartest operators in the Farah Palmer Cup, and offers valuable back-up to Kendra Cocksedge at halfback. She had made Black Ferns squads in 2015 and 2017 without ever taking the field due to the presence of the classy Cocksedge.

She was a key part of the Counties Manukau Heat side which rejoined the Farah Palmer Cup competition in 2013, and was also part of the Counties side that contested the National Sevens in 2015.

After early forays at first five, Marino-Tauhinu, out of the Manurewa club, is now content to run the show in the No 9 jersey and occasionally does the goalkicking. She can run, pass, defend and switch up the pace of the game to good effect.

She now holds the record for most appearances for the Heat.

After leading the Heat to their first Farah Palmer Cup crown in 2016, Marino-Tauhinu also led the side to the 2018 Premiership final against Canterbury on her home ground in Pukekohe.

In 2019, she was one of four new players to be offered a Black Ferns contract and duly made her Black Ferns debut, appearing off the pine in all six Tests.

Marino-Tauhinu is a gifted sportswoman and has previously worn a black jersey when she turned out for the Kiwi Ferns in league, the Aotearoa Maori sevens side and age grade and Maori touch sides.
