BIOGRAPHY

QUICK-THINKING AND exciting halfback Brad Weber established himself as the first-choice halfback for the Chiefs in his Investec Super Rugby debut in 2014.

He was a stand-out performer in the 2015 campaign, earning an All Blacks call-up for the historic match against Samoa and making his Māori All Blacks debut against the Barbarians in what was a very busy year.

In 2016, he shifted to Hawke’s Bay from Waikato for the Mitre 10 Cup, where he continued to display his strong leadership skills. His pass is one of the fastest in the game, matched only by his electric pace which allows him to reach the breakdown quickly. He was unlucky in 2017 to suffer a thigh injury, sidelining him for the entire season, though he was back in 2018, making an instant impact for the Chiefs.

He continued that form into 2019, starting most games for his Super Rugby side and being clinical in his finishing, crossing the chalk five times and slotting two conversions.

Despite his northern roots, Weber was a key part of the South's victory over the North in 2020 by virtue of making his first class debut with Otago.

Weber was back in black for the Steinlager Series in 2021 and scored a hattrick of tries against Tonga at Mt Smart Stadium.

The former Napier Boys’ High School player represented Otago whilst studying at University and played for the victorious New Zealand Under 20 side in 2011 when they defeated England in Italy to win the title.

Weber was named co-captain of the Māori All Blacks alongside TJ Perenara for the home series against Ireland in 2022.
