KRYSTEN COTTRELL made the bold move from the outside backs into the pivot role in the No 10 jersey
She adds depth to the position after previously featuring for the Hawke’s Bay Tuis and the Manawatu Cyclones as a fullback or wing.
Cottrell was first thrust into the limelight as a raw 15-year-old, playing for Hawke's Bay in 2007. Though she appeared in just one game in 2017, she now has more than 20 games for the Tuis to her credit. There were also 27 games for Manawatu from 2013-16, where her goalkicking ability was utilised and she also showed her wares for the province’s sevens team.
In 2018 Cottrell formed a formidable partnership with Black Ferns legend and halfback Emma Jensen, with the pair helping to establish the Tuis as a strong Farah Palmer Cup Championship team.
Cottrell is a women’s rugby development officer for the provincial union.
