BIOGRAPHY
PIA TAPSELL was close to the rookie of the year for the Black Ferns in 2019.
She started all six Tests for the side in 2019, appearing at either No 8 or blindside flanker, impressing with her strong carries and aggressive defence.
Later that year, she played thrice for the NZ Development XV in Fiji scoring two tries. It was really a continuation of her 2016-19 form for the Harbour Hibiscus, where she was one of the standout forwards in the competition.
Tapsell was also an outstanding Sevens player and was part of the inaugural Red Bull Ignite Seven tournament in Auckland in 2018. In 2019, she was part of the Massey University side that won the University and Tertiary Sport New Zealand Championship.
A product of the East Coast Bays club on Auckland’s North Shore, Tapsell played for Bay of Plenty for the 2020 Farah Palmer Cup, offering good impact in five games for the Volcanix.
