HAVING DEBUTED in 2009 under Bryce Woodward, Wright has played over 80 games for the Northland Taniwha where he has been a staple of his Mitre 10 Cup side for nearly a decade.
Wright had an impressive 2017 season with Northland’s front row, with the experienced loosehead prop helping his team to a Mitre 10 Cup Championship semifinal. A quiet achiever, Wright was a key anchor for their impressive scrum, with an ability to punch through the opposition’s defensive line. It was enough to earn a call-up to Coach Clayton McMillan’s northern tour squad to Canada and France and into the Blues Super Rugby wider training squad.
2018 was a milestone year for the Northland loyal man who gave up a lawn mowing business to pursue his rugby aspirations. He made his Investec Super Rugby debut for the Blues against the Lions and he continued to impress during the season making 11 more appearances for the side and earning selection to the end of year Tour to USA and South America with the Māori All Blacks.
