TOM FRANKLIN IS an agile, athletic lock, who has become a regular starter for Super Rugby side the Highlanders.
After a gruelling 2014 provincial campaign for Otago, he was rewarded with selection in the 2014 Māori All Blacks team that toured Japan. He followed that up with a strong 2015 season for the Highlanders and played every game up until Round 17, when he injured his elbow, ending his season.
He was in impressive form for the Highlanders in 2016, doing enough to be called into the All Blacks squad as injury cover for the Steinlager Series against Wales. He was selected for the Māori All Blacks Northern Tour and started against the USA and Harlequins.
In 2018, Franklin undertook a sabbatical, playing in Japan for Kobe Steelers in the Investec Super Rugby off-season. He rejoined the Highlanders for the 2019 season, playing in 14 of the Highlanders 16 matches and scoring three tries.
Franklin was a member of the New Zealand U20 team that won the 2010 Junior World Championship in Argentina.
